Clone Windows, transfer profiles. Without ever touching the source.
MBI Clone moves your customers to a new SSD or a new PC: a verified copy of Windows, profiles carried over by disk or over the network, and a clear report of what still needs to be re-entered.

Made and tested in our MB Informatique workshops
Made and tested in our MB Informatique workshops.
MBI Clone is built in Rixheim, Alsace (France), by the team that repairs and migrates its customers’ PCs in the workshop. A workshop tool designed by technicians, for technicians.
Two commitments guide the entire tool
01
The source is never modified.
When cloning, Windows is read through a VSS snapshot or from a disk locked in read-only mode. When transferring, the old disk stays read-only. If anything fails, the source is exactly as it was when you connected it.
02
Nothing is declared successful without verification.
Every clone ends with a mandatory verification, and every profile is read back after copying. At the slightest doubt, the operation is refused or cleanly cancelled rather than delivered in an uncertain state.
Workflow 1 · Cloning
Windows → new SSD, boot included.
A faithful copy of the Windows installation to a new disk. MBI Clone does not duplicate the manufacturer’s layout: it rebuilds it, then checks the partitions, file system, boot and recovery before handing the disk back to you.
Destination disk layout
GPT / UEFI · diagram, not to scale
- EFI
- FAT32, 300 MiB. UEFI boot recreated.
- MSR
- 16 MiB, reserved for Windows.
- Windows (C:)
- NTFS, extended on a larger disk.
- Recovery
- NTFS, 1.5 GiB, at the end of the disk so that C: can still be extended.
MBR source: you choose between keeping MBR / BIOS and switching the new disk to GPT / UEFI. The source stays MBR.
From Windows or from a dock
The computer’s Windows is copied while it is running, using a VSS snapshot. An offline disk connected to a dock is locked read-only or frozen by a snapshot.
To a larger disk or a smaller one
On a larger disk, C: is extended. On a smaller one, migration is done file by file: permissions, alternate data streams and NTFS links are preserved.
MBR to GPT / UEFI, if you choose
An MBR source can keep its BIOS boot or switch to GPT / UEFI on the new disk, once you have confirmed that the machine boots in UEFI mode.
No way to pick the wrong disk
Model, capacity and the end of the serial number for every disk. The disk holding the running Windows is never offered as a destination; a disk that cannot be reliably identified behind a USB enclosure is refused.
Disk health at a glance
A SMART badge for each disk: healthy, endurance limit reached, predicted failure… A failing destination blocks cloning, unless overridden, with the override recorded in the log.
Verified, then taken offline
Partitions, NTFS, boot and WinRE are checked every time; a full read-back with SHA-256 hashes is optional. The new disk is taken offline before you disconnect it.
Workflow 2 · Profile transfer
The old PC’s profiles, on the new one.
Files, AppData, registry and saved passwords: MBI Clone creates the local account and transfers the profile into it, from the old disk or over the local network.
By disk · dock or USB
The old disk, connected without booting from it
The scan starts on its own and lists the profiles: you tick the ones to carry over, several in a single batch.
- BitLocker volume unlocked with the recovery key, without being decrypted.
- Printers reinstalled with their drivers, recovered from the old disk.
- Rescue mode for a failing disk: every unreadable file is named in the report.
Over the local network
From one PC to the other, without taking anything apart
A direct, encrypted stream between the two computers: nothing goes through a server or the cloud.
Pairing code (SAS)
The same code must appear on both screens. Until the old PC has authorized the destination, nothing leaves it.
Clear report: transferred / must be re-entered
Transferred
- Local account recreated, permissions and SIDs mapped
- Profile files, AppData included, read back after copying
- Saved passwords (DPAPI), with the customer’s old password
- Printers and their drivers, when transferring from a disk
- The old PC’s software offered for reinstallation
Reported, to be handled separately
- Wi-Fi networks, named so you know which keys to ask the customer for
- Windows Hello PIN and user certificates
- Data outside the profile: redirected folders, other partitions
- Files blocked by the antivirus, named one by one
Day to day
Designed for everyday workshop use.
One-click diagnostics
After an error, “Send diagnostics” passes the report and its logs to MB Informatique. Nothing to copy by hand.
Verified updates
Announced in the application, downloaded over HTTPS and checked against a SHA-256 hash. Nothing is installed without your approval.
Everything is logged
Every clone and every transfer has its own detailed log, kept on the computer for at least 90 days.
English and French
Bilingual interface and installer, set according to the Windows language and changeable in the settings.

Workshop questions
The questions we get asked.
The clone won’t boot: what should I check?
First, the firmware mode: a GPT disk boots in UEFI mode (Legacy/CSM disabled), an MBR disk keeps legacy BIOS mode. The exact instructions are repeated at the end of cloning.
Can I clone to a smaller disk?
Yes, by file-by-file NTFS migration, provided the data fits with the required margin on C:, which is 20 GiB or 10% of its size, whichever is greater.
Does the customer’s data go through a server?
No. The network transfer is a direct, encrypted (TLS) stream between the two PCs: nothing is stored on a server, in a cloud or on any intermediate medium.
What about Microsoft or domain accounts?
The profile lands in a local account; the Microsoft account is then reconnected manually. A domain account cannot be a destination.
